The expression "qualia" was launched in philosophical literature by C. I. Lewis. The term is derived from Latin and implies "of what form". It is essentially a amount or residence of something as perceived or experienced by somebody, much like the scent of rose, the taste of wine, or the ache of a headache. They may be hard to articulate or explain
